Maithili Sashindranath

I have 13 years (FTE) of applied post-doctoral research experience in the health and medical sector spanning both academic research and project management of clinical trials. I am State Manager for the Australian Centre for Excellence in Melanoma Imaging and Diagnosis (ACEMID) Cohort Study within Victoria (0.8). In this national level project in melanoma imaging, I oversee research, data, and clinical governance. I collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to develop clinical studies to trial machine learning and artificial intelligence based digital health interventions that will ultimately improve patient care, enhance efficiency, and drive positive outcomes. My contribution to fundamental scientific research since 2004 has significantly improved the understanding of bleeding and clotting complications of brain injuries. As Deputy Director of the Vascular Biology group, Australian Centre for Blood Disease (0.2 FTE since Jul 2021), I lead a team of scientists to develop therapies for endothelial dysfunction that are based on the purinergic signalling pathway.

I am very keen to support CALD women in STEM as I believe that I want to apply my learnings and experiences to improve outcomes them, rather than carry the attitude of ‘if I went through it, so should you”. I want to be able to empower other women like me to achieve great things. I support and guide mentees by sharing my own experiences of living and studying in 4 countries.
