Leticia Camargo Tavares

I recently obtained my PhD in Computational Biology and Genomic Medicine from Monash University, Australia, in December 2023, supported by a Research Training Program scholarship from the Australian government. My PhD thesis focused on uncovering genetic risk factors associated with gastrointestinal disorders, including irritable bowel syndrome and gastroparesis. I achieved this by integrating phenotypic and genetic data from international cohorts and large-scale biobanks, utilizing high-performance computing and advanced coding skills. Currently, I am a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the Hypertension Research Laboratory within Monash University’s School of Biological Sciences. My work involves conducting bioinformatic analyses to investigate the role of the microbiome in the risk of hypertension and cardiovascular diseases. I also hold a Master’s degree in Pharmacogenetics and Precision Medicine and a Bachelor’s degree in Biomolecular Sciences, both from the University of Sao Paulo in Brazil, my home country. During my PhD studies, I was a visiting researcher at Harvard University, USA, and completed part of my undergraduate studies at the State University of New York (SUNY Albany) through a fully funded scholarship awarded by the Brazilian government as part of the Science without Borders Program.
